This is a webinar dedicated to SAR capabilities that e-GEOS can deploy using the best constellation on the market, COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation and the best combination of SAR data from the two systems COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation and SAOCOM, the Argentinean SAR Constellation.
COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation constellation, fully operational in January 2021,
represents the new Polar Star of the radar satellites.
The follow-up system of the COSMO-SkyMed constellation, owned by the Italian Space
Agency (ASI) and the Italian Ministry of Defence, guarantees a significant improvement
to the first generation in terms of performance, image quality, interoperability,
efficiency of services.
e-GEOS is the exclusive commercial reseller of COSMO-SkyMed first and second generation,
the most advanced worldwide Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation, a system
providing us every day and night with a big amount of data.
The Argentine Satellite SAOCOM developed and built by CONAE with the participation of
VENG and INVAP companies and national organizations such as CNEA, being the result of the
work and effort of more than 10 years of the national scientific and technological system.
Thanks to the L-band SAR unique technology, the SAOCOM satellites are able to monitor the Earth
day and night, regardless of weather conditions and can penetrate the vegetation cover and the
soil, collecting information for soil moisture, risk maps and interferometry products.
The SAOCOM constellation, composed of two identical satellites (SAOCOM 1A and 1B) and the
COSMO-SkyMed constellation are part of the SIASGE, a joint project between CONAE and ASI.
The complementarity between X-band and L-band images, characterized by lower resolution
but higher coherence over time, will guarantee additional high-quality data for several
applications (e.g. natural resources identification, interferometry, and glaciology).
The orbital configuration of the two missions will also make it possible to acquire the
same target with X and L band at a distance of only 14 minutes, allowing unique analysis
capabilities.
Moreover, the joint operability between the four COSMO-SkyMed and the first of four COSMO-SkyMed
Second Generation X-band satellites and the two SAOCOM L-band satellites doubles the daily
coverage capability, providing exceptional revisit frequencies for specific operational requirements.
COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation
Financed by the Italian Space Agency, the Italian Defence Ministry and
the Italian Education, University and Research Ministry, COSMO-SkyMed was
created by the Italian space industry together with Leonardo and its joint
venture, Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio. Data from COSMO-SkyMed
are marketed throughout the world by e-GEOS.
SAOCOM
The SAOCOM constellation, composed of two identical satellites (SAOCOM 1A and 1B) and the COSMO-SkyMed constellation are part of the SIASGE, a joint project between CONAE and ASI. VENG, an Argentinean company formed (97%) by the National Commission for Space Activities – CONAE, designated for the world-wide distribution of data acquired outside Europe by the constellation of SAOCOM satellites (Argentinean Satellite of Observation with Microwaves).
